Medicine: Ibuprofen (Motrin) vs Acetaminophen (Tylenol)- It's best to try and see which one works better on your child. Switching from one to the other is not usually beneficial and can actually cause stomach aches. You can however, layer the two, if the first one you gave isn't working.
Example: You started your child on Motrin at 12pm...by 3pm his fever still isn't down. Make sure to write down that you gave Motrin at 12pm, then give him the proper dose of Tylenol & write that down as well. You can then give more Motrin at 6pm if his fever is still high.
Stiches: Take your child in as soon as possible if edges of cut do not go back together. The longer you wait to get stitches the more tissue build up there is.
ER vs Urgent Care: If your child is 2 or under try and find a pediatric urgent care.
Going to sleep issues: Best solution is to try and have a routine every night and do it as consistently as possible.
Every mom & dad should BLS certified (basic life support) or at least have taken a course to be familiar in what to do with emergency situations.
I know he said he has NO INTEREST in trying to get new patients, BUT I'm going to list his contact info anyway....because we all know a good pediatrician can be hard to find!

After trying several pediatricians in and around Rancho and Mission Viejo, a family friend referred me to SoCalPeds. It was the best doctor referral I received to date.
ReplyDeleteWith experience at Kids Doc in Ladera Ranch, I was done taking my twins to a money hungry franchise with hurried service.
SoCalPeds is the best pediatric office in Mission Viejo. Dr. Young and Dr. Lin are awesome. Their staff is equally good.
Kelly's warm smile and welcoming vibe put me at ease at my first visit. Nurse Liz tended to my kids and quickly captured my kids attention. She is compassionate, responsive and gentle.
I'm blessed to know a team of professionals care about my twins as much as I do. I know this because I'm in this office at least twice a month and each time I'm there, my family and I are treated like rock stars.
Dr. Lin and Dr. Young are on-call 24/7. No answering machine nurse or call center doctor. I don't know any other pediatric office who can claim that.
Give SoCalPeds a chance. You'll be glad you did.
